4th IN-SMART Workshop – Designing Effective Assessment through the Journey of Design-aware Learning Analytics

Date: 10 December 2025 (Wed)

Time: 3:00-5:00pm

Venue: CPD 3.41, Jockey Club Tower, HKU

Target participants: Project coordinators & Teachers of IN-SMART project schools

Topic: Designing Effective Assessment through the Journey of Design-aware Learning Analytics

Abstract:

In this workshop, we will explore the approach to design effective assessment which aligns with the components described in the learning design triangle. Through the journey, we will co-construct knowledge and skills to carry out “design-aware learning analytics”, which consists of strategies to collect and analyze learning evidence, and thereby promote our assessment literacy.

Event Highlights (1)

In this section, the speaker discussed principles of designing effective assessment, through integrating examples shown in part of a sample learning design (a curriculum component), and ideas shared by our participants.

Event Highlights (2)

Through inviting participants to share their learning analytics questions (LAQs) discussed collaboratively, we drew attention to the idea that while we could only discuss task-level LAQs due to the time being, learning designers ought to consider other aspects and levels of LAQs, in order to undergo a more comprehensive design-aware learning analytics process.

Event Highlights (3)

This section highlights the summary of the workshop, by outlining how we “walk our talk” to apply the concept of “design-aware learning analytics” in designing and implementing this workshop. It is encouraging to witness that they shared a variety of takeaways they regarded as applicable to their school settings, which is the most powerful “learning evidence” collected.
